_ Challenge

Provide greater transparency on the social and environmental impact of clothing.

An Absence of Information. “Blank” refers to the blank drawn by consumers when looking for information on how a piece of clothing has been made. The industry, dominated by “fast fashion,” has faced increasing pressure in recent years for practices that include polluting waterways, tolerating indecent working conditions and using hazardous dyes. Other problems are less well known, including that a majority of our clothing is made from synethetic fibers, mainly plastic derived from fossil fuels, or that nearly all clothing ends up as waste. A much-needed – if belated – wake-up call has now been sounded and Blank. intends to be one of the players in this awakening.

_ Approach & Solution

Blank is a Responsible Intermediary With its mobile application and online platform, Blank. wants to put ethically and environmentally aware consumers in touch with companies that have signed up to Blank.’s charter. Brands are required to complete an online questionnaire covering various criteria (materials used, recycling, working conditions, production locations, means of transport, etc.), and the details provided are then corroborated by research carried out by Blank.’s own team and experts. The Blank. app is beneficial in two ways. It allows fashion-lovers to consume responsibly thanks to the information it provides. It also gives the companies that meet its sustainability standards access to an ever-increasing community for whom the environment, human rights and product quality are determining factors when purchasing clothes. Lookbooks will showcase the products in order to underline that fact that design and the environment can go hand in hand. Blank. and its users will promote local brands, clothing recycling and the reduction of negative impacts on the environment. I
